Solstice Song

The longest languid solstice days
hum lullabies in purple haze
of childhood days in sparkling spray,
of rainbows made by sprinkler play.

With melodies of barbecues,
‘neath azure skies that play the blues,
refracted glow from fairy-flies
reveals young love’s enamored sighs.

The largess lures this old grey head
to poignant dreams, instead of bed.
Extended days, I’ll sit and brood,
reflecting in my solitude,

that love is but a melody,
replaying in my memory.
A choir of crickets sings along
to reminiscent summer’s song.
